Obituary for John J. Schmidt Jr.

John J. Schmidt, II
John, known to many as “Jack” passed away early Saturday morning March 25, 2017 in Harrisburg Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born on May 28, 1940 in a farmhouse in Londonderry Township to the late John and Marjorie Schmidt. He is preceded in death by his wife Nora in 2016, and his brother Richard.
Jack is survived by one brother Joseph (Darlene) of Middletown and four sisters, Nancy Brought and Marjorie Schmidt of Hummelstown, Trudy Sass of Rockfall, CT., and Polly (Alan) Parsons of Waldron AR., as well as sister-in-law Helen Schmidt of Middletown. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Jack graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1959 and went on to enlist in the USMC right after graduation. He then joined The PA Air National Guard from which he retired after 30 years of active service as a MGST. Jack also retired as a Draftsman/Designer from the PA Dept. of Transportation after 35 years.
He was a 4th degree member of the Bishop Shanahan Knights of Columbus as well as the Middletown Knights of Columbus. Jack was a social member of the Moose Lodge 410, Elks Lodge 1074, American Legion Post 0594 and a lifetime member of Rescue Firemen's Home Association of Middletown and the Anglers and Hunter’s.
Keeping with Jack's wish's, there will be no services. Burial will be at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Veterans Voluntary Services, 1700 S. Lincoln Ave. Lebanon, PA 17042. ATTN: VSS/10V.
The family has entrusted the care of the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 260 East Main St. Middletown, PA with the funeral arrangements.
