Obituary for Robert K. Bitner

Robert K. Bitner, 87, of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center.
He was born in Middletown, PA on May 3, 1930 and was the son of the late L. Kemper and Violet (Williamson) Bitner.
Robert was a former president and treasurer of the Middletown Rotary Club, a charter member and past treasurer of the Blue and Gold Club, a former Middletown Borough Councilman and the past president of the Slabsiders club.
He was also a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, Middletown and enjoyed hunting, golfing, and gardening.
Robert was a graduate of Middletown High School, class of 1948, where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track, and Gettysburg College, class of 1952, where he lettered in football and baseball and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. After college, he served in the Air Force. He was retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp., Steelton.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his three siblings, Margaret Parkhill, Hellen Allen and David Bitner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carlyn L. Bitner, two daughters, Beth M. Maurer and her husband Mark of Boiling Springs and Jennifer R. Bitner of San Francisco CA; three grandchildren, Mitchell R. Maurer and Lily E. Maurer, both of Boiling Springs and Kai L. Souzis of San Francisco; and several nieces and nephews.
A tribute to Robert’s life will be held on Monday June 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Matinchek Funeral Home with the Rev. M. Lee Ellenberger officiating.
Viewing will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will be in the Middletown Cemetery. A luncheon at the church will follow the burial.
Memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the charity of your choice.
