CAROL MARIE KEENY
Carol Marie Keeny (née George) died on September 15, 2017at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, FL due to complications resulting from pneumonia and sarcoidosis. She was 72.
Ms. Keeny was born December 27, 1944 to Elva Ives George and Herman Leroy George, Sr. in Harrisburg, PA. She graduated from Middletown High School in 1962 and from the Harrisburg School of Nursing in 1965. She worked as a registered nurse at Harrisburg Hospital during the 1960s and 1970s, and later as a peer review nurse for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania until her retirement in 2009.
Ms. Keeny was married to Gary Frank Rand, Sr. from 1966 to 1979. They had three sons: Gary Frank Rand, II, Brian Keith Rand, and James David Rand. She was married to David B. Keeny from 1988 to 2006.
In addition to being a dedicated mother and grandmother, Ms. Keeny loved to dance. She taught tap and ballet at Gail’s School of Dance in Harrisburg and Middletown in the 1960s, and later took up tap dancing with the Tap Pups in the 2000s before becoming seriously ill with encephalitis in 2009.
Ms. Keeny is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kelly Rand of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, Brian, Jennifer, and Kirsten Rand of Adams, TN; her son, James Rand of St. Petersburg, FL; and her sister, Mary Lee Springer, of Keller, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Herman George, Jr.; and her sister, Susan Selcher.
A memorial service for Ms. Keeny will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Middletown, PA at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Ms. Keeny’s life. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.
The family has entrusted the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Middletown to handle the funeral arrangements.
